I'm Alan Shaheed Gray, I was born November 15, 1980 in Newark, NJ to a single mom. Poverty levels in Newark New Jersey during the 80’s and early 90’s we’re high because of the impact the Newark Riots had on the economy. A single mother of four boys would have to work twice as hard to keep from losing her children to the streets. With that being the case my mother embarked on placing me in as many programs possible such as computers, art, acrobatics, and after school programs. As of March 2018 I’ve decided to take a leap of faith in pursuing a career in art.
I use different mediums, acrylics, and pastels when creating a abstract painting . I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style. What makes this experience unique is that I never used these mediums prior to the idea to launch Pearls Pastel Perfections.
My mom would eventually succumb to stage four cancer May 7,2008. She was the foundation of my life and the inspiration that drives me today. The name of my business is derived from my mother’s middle name. She is special and treasured deep in my heart as a pearl. Now being a husband of seven children, three which are autistic, Is enough motivation for me to continue on building a legacy for them. The customers are witnessing a journey of an artist and his creative evolution. And his willingness to share those abstract paintings with the community of family and supporters who spur me on to produce greater quality and content.
